This
establishment has the longest tradition of family ownership in the town. The
Mansworth family have owned the pub since 1895. They undoubtedly served ale
to many of the relatives and friends of the emigrants who left Cobh in their
millions. Although the tide of emigration has long since abated, many travellers
still visit this establishment. In particular the sailors of US and other
naval vessels are frequently to be found enjoying the hospitable Irish pub
atmosphere. The present proprietor, Mr. John Mansworth, was elected National
President of the Vintners' Federation of Ireland in early 1998.
